COVID-19 PROTOCOLS

As you can probably imagine, things are going to be different in the office with the new precautions and protocols in place to keep all of us as safe as possible in this time of COVID-19.

Please take a few minutes to thoroughly read through this document. It will give you all the information you need to prepare for your appointment and know what to expect.  .

PRE-SCREENING:

You will receive a survey over email to be completed prior to your appointment. This will screen for any COVID-19 symptoms. Please have a look for this in your folders, as it may not appear in your main mailbox. You are also welcome to complete the COVID-19 Self Assessment Survey prior to our appointment. If you have any symptoms, (fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, loss of sense of smell) or have been in any contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, please do not come to your appointment. Call 8-1-1 and you will be directed to your next steps.

Beyond the Self Assessment Survey, we will also discuss the following:

  • have you been isolated within a restricted "bubble", and if so, for how long?

  • have you had extensive contact with people outside your household, pod, or work pod other than grocery store clerks ect?

  • are you aware if any of your contacts have had COVID-19 symptoms?

I am also prepared to answer these questions for you to assess your level of safety and comfort in attending treatment.

Its possible you may feel great when we talk on the phone, and then wake up feeling not great. Please just get in touch with me in the am and we will cancel your session. 24 cancellation fees will be waived during this time, it's more important for us all to stay safe.

If you are someone who is at increased risk for COVID-19 complications, lets talk about that throughly before you book an appointment. We will need to determine if the benefits of treatment out weigh the risk to you.

If you are a Health Care Worker, our prescreening process will need to include these details using this tool provided by the BCCDC.

We will have another check-in upon your arrival, and you will have the opportunity to assess my set up to determine if the level of precaution is adequate for your comfort and safety. I will also be using this time to assess for any symptoms that may be present and if necessary I have the option to refuse treatment if I feel it is unsafe to proceed.

PHYSICAL DISTANCING

We will maintain the 2m/6ft distance for all aspects of the session other than the treatment itself. As my office is quite large and has no waiting room, this is relatively easy to achieve. The pre-screening, hand hygiene and enhanced cleaning are all in place to minimize the risk that the proximity of treatment involves.

I have removed the chair from outside my office, and suggest that you arrive no more than 5 minutes early for your appointment.

Please come by yourself to your appointment, unless you need assistance or are accompanying a minor.

I have reduced traffic around my office by increasing the amount of time between each patient, and reducing the number of patients I see per day.

I have also removed all fabric seating, cushions and anything that can't be sanitized.

The elevator in the Duncan Building is now single occupancy.

BATHROOM/HAND HYGIENE

When you arrive at your appointment, you will need to wash your hands. The bathroom in the Duncan Building is the trickiest part of this set up. I will hand you the sanitized key. I would recommend opening the door slowly, and only going in if there is one or less people inside. Take care of what ever business needs to be attended to, then wash your hands for 20 seconds. Use a paper towel to open the door, and I will be waiting with the door to my office open when you return. I will have hand sanitizer available if on the journey back contamination occurred. Once your hands are washed/sanitized, please refrain from touching your face, eyes, mouth and nose.  Tissues will be available throughout the session if you have an itch, or need to sneeze/cough.

I will also be following a very strict hand washing and hygiene protocol, taking care to make sure that my hands are 100% before treatment takes place.

ENHANCED CLEANING

All high touch areas will the throughly sanitized between each appointment.

All linens are to be single use only, which means NO BLANKET. Opaque and flannel sheets are available, and the table warmer will be in use if temperature is an issue. If you like, you can bring your own blanket to and from the session.

Please bring your own water bottle to the session if possible. If you forget and need a drink, please allow me to get water for you, to limit the contact with the water station.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE)

At this stage, I am requesting that everyone bring and wear a clean mask (while lying face up) during the session. I will have disposable masks available if needed.

I will also be wearing a mask for the duration of each session.

Please make sure your hands are clean when you put on your mask, and that you clean them again after taking off your mask.

JUST A FEW MORE THINGS

A bit more info about my side of things.

If I feel any symptoms at all, I will call you that morning and cancel your appointment.

I have made the decision to only work at my office in the Duncan Building for the time being. It feels like the most safe decision as I am the only person to use this space.

RISKS

As many of you are returning clients, you are aware of the benefits of Massage Therapy. During this time, it's important that you are also aware of the risks still present associated with COVID-19.

  • due to the nature of Massage Therapy, any treatment does have some risk of transmission of COVID-19

  • I have implemented the above protocols to mitigate this risk, but I cannot guarantee that this risk can be reduced to zero

  • by consenting to receive treatment, you are consenting to the risk entailed, and that consent will be documented in your chart for our records.
